Designer Debra Quartermain shares her enthusiasm for creativity through books, magazines, print ads, project sheets, and manufacturer product development. Whether teaching, consulting, or demonstrating her skills, her goal is to always inspire and motivate everyone’s creative spirit! Her main areas of expertise are creating whimsical characters, fashion, and home decor accessories. Her designs have appeared in hundreds of magazines, including Creative Homearts, Crafts n’ Things, Creative & Decorate, Country Sampler, Quilting Treasures, Bead Unique.

As a licensed designer, illustrations from one of her four how to books, “Easy to Sew Playful Toys,” resulted in two children’s quilting fabric lines for Northcott. Licensed patterns with Butterick/McCalls and her own pattern line of soft characters under the name Homespun Treasures were sold in seventeen countries. Her line of McSockers sock monkeys were sold across Canada and even appeared in a Hallmark Christmas movie, “Christmas with Holly.”

Working with various manufacturers, Debra has filmed segments with Sheryl Borden’s Creative Living and Quilting Treasures. Her new studio in a heritage property on the water in Fredericton, NB, Canada was featured in the popular magazine Studios. The property is also home to her latest venture, which encompasses her love of cooking, entertaining, and decorating in the Five Star Quartermain House B&B.

As an active member of the CHA Designer section, she has headlined several designer displays for the major winter show and has also been a member of the Designer Code of Conduct team — the L+D Advisory Board. She is also a member of the Smoothfoam Design team and the Designer Craft Connection blog “Hop.” Debra exhibited in the License + Design section of the CHA winter show, winning Excellence in Exhibit Award in 2009, along with Marie Browning. In 2008, Debra received the Paul G. Harris Volunteer Award for “her resourcefulness and creativity.” In 2007, the University of NB in Saint John named the school’s yearbook “The Quartonian” in honor of her role as first editor on campus.
