Girl Scout Giant Bag

There are so many times when we need a giant bag to carry, haul and organize things with our Girl Scout troop. Making a Girl Scout giant bag with felt is such a great idea because it can be used over and over again, washed and reused again. This is great for the environment because we are not wasting plastic bags. We use the giant bag when we are camping to collect the things that have to go into the trailer (away from animals) at night, to collect kindling for the fire and to bring home recyclable trash. We have also used it to carry boxes of cookies to be donated and to haul sleeping bags.

To make the bag, you only need a few things.

  • Kunin Classicfelt (Apple Green) 36” x 72”
  • 9” x 12” craft cuts Kunin 2 (Walnut Brown) 6” x 9” for EACH number
  • 9” x 12 “ craft cut Kunin Corduroy felt (red) for heart
  • Scissors
  • Sewing Machine
  • Straight Pins

Start by cutting out the troop numbers.

Fold the large green piece in half so the fold creates the bottom of the bag. Position the numbers (and a red heart if you want one) onto the bag and pin them in place.

Once you have sewed the numbers and the heart to what will be the front of the bag, turn it inside out and sew the two sizes up. Then flip it back to complete your bag.

So, what would you do with a Girl Scout giant bag?
