Lucky Rainbow & Shamrock Wreath

by Beth Watson

Don’t you just LOVE bright, happy colors? I do and especially when they are incorporated into RAINBOWS!

Here’s What You Will Need:

  • Kunin Classics™ Felt 9” x 12” Craft Cuts – Red, Candy Pink, Orange, Yellow, Brilliant Blue, Royal Blue, Orchid, Neon Green, Olive, Kelly Green – One (1) each. Apple Green – Two (2) each. Pirate Green – Four (4) each.
  • Tombow MONO Drawing Pen 05 and Dual Brush Pen #026
  • Straw Wreath 12”
  • Fiskars Plastic Heart Template
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Pencil; Eraser; Scissors; Plain Paper; Chipboard
  • Buttons in shades of Green 16-20

Here’s How to Make it

Step One:
To create a shamrock pattern, trace three hearts of the same size from a template (or freehand) connecting at the base, then draw in a stem. I used the 2” heart from my Fiskars Template. Cut out, trace onto chipboard and cut out again.

Step Two:
Trace shamrock four (4) times onto Kunin Classics™ Neon Green, Apple Green, Olive, Pirate Green and Kelly Green with MONO Drawing Pen 05. Cut out with scissors. Measure and cut one 3” wide by 12” long rectangle from Kunin Classics™ Red, Candy Pink, Orange, Yellow, Apple Green, Brilliant Blue, Royal Blue and Orchid. Measure and cut nine 3” wide by 12” long rectangles from Kunin Classics™ Pirate Green.

TIP: Remember to cut INSIDE the lines for a neat and clean finished project.

Step Three:
Leave the plastic wrapping on the straw wreath form. Wrap a Pirate Green rectangle around the wreath, securing both ends of the felt with hot glue. Trim any excess felt. Wrap a second Pirate Green rectangle around the wreath, angling and overlapping approximately ½”. Secure with hot glue and trim. Repeat with a third Pirate Green rectangle, then begin to add the colors in rainbow order and finish up with 6 more Pirate Green rectangles.

Step Four:
Attach shamrocks in a random fashion to the Pirate Green section of the wreath. I overlapped the shamrocks to give a three-dimensional look.

Step Five:
Attach a green button to the center of each shamrock.

Step Six:
Here is a super-secret tip I always use with letter stickers. I only buy letter stickers in white and white glitter, then add color to them based upon the project I am working on. Select the word or phrase you want to use and attach it to a non-stick craft sheet. Apply paint, ink or marker in a color that coordinates with your project and BAM, a custom message! For the letters LUCKY I use a Tombow Dual Brush Pen to add the golden color to the glitter letter stickers. Attach to the top of the wreath with hot glue.

I hope you will use my Lucky Rainbow and Shamrock Wreath as a jumping off point to showcase your Kunin Creativity and create something bright and colorful today!

Felt is an easy, versatile and forgiving medium which allows you to create affordable but trendy projects whether you are a beginner or an expert crafter!

You can now find an expanded color line of Kunin® ClassicfeltKunin® Premiumfelt and Corduroy non-wovens fabrics in cut by the yard at your local Walmart; please inquire as to what is available in your area.

Did you know Kunin felt is made from recycled plastic water bottles and manufactured right here in the United States? It takes approximately ten plastic bottles to make a pound of fibers. That fiber is used to create many products, my favorite of course is Kunin felt!
