Girl power is such a great way to build self-esteem and confidence in scouts. Making pennants that can be used when marching in parades, at cookie booths or in meetings is a fun activity that is pretty easy peasy. If you want to make them with younger Girl Scouts, I recommend that you do the sewing of the pennants ahead of time and then let them do the decorating and the words. The completed yardstick pennants are great to carry alone but can be added all together to create a troop garland.

To make the pennants, you will need the following supplies and materials.

• Eco-Fi Plus Felt in a Variety of Colors (two 12 x 18 inch sheets per pennant plus scraps for decorations)
• Scissors/Rotary Cutter
• Sewing Machine
• Fabric Glue

Start by creating your pennants. From the 6 inch center of the shorter side, cut to each corner to get your triangle.

Sew around the two pieces of the same color pennant starting at the bottom left corner, going up and then to the point and back to the corner, stopping two inches before and then sewing to the top. This creates the opening for the yardstick to be inserted.

Cut out letters to spell empowering words. Glue them to the pennant with fabric glue.

Wave them high in the sky.

Or put them all together to create a decorative garland. This would be awesome on a cookie booth! These would be great created in a much smaller version for S.W.A.P.S. or for decorating cookie boxes that are gifts.
