Trefoil Key Rings

For Girl Scouts, the three trefoil leaves represent the promise. It is three-fold, “To serve God and my country, to help people at all time, and to live by the Girl Scout law.” This project is special because it embodies the spirit of scouting. The simple, stitched felt trefoil shaped key ring is great for holding special keys like the ones to camp cabins or to camp lockers.

Kunin Felt Girl Scout Trefoil Key Ring

To make this darling crafty project, you will need the following materials:

  • 9” x 12” craft cuts Kunin Classicfelt; Kelly or Apple Green
  • Green embroidery floss and needle
  • Ribbon (¾ inch width)
  • Key rings

Trefoil Key Ring Material

Using the pattern, cut out two trefoils of the same size from the green felt.

Stitch the two pieces together around the edges leaving a half inch opening at the top. The blanket stitch is a good choice for this project but a simple stitch could be used too.

Sewing Together Trefoil Pieces

Insert ribbon (looped) into the opening and stitch it closed attaching the ribbon the inside.

Add your key ring and a bow. These would be great for leaders to make and give to girls when they distribute special pins. I attached my Brownie Girl Scout pin from 1977 on this one. I love that I have saved it for all these years.

Being a Girl Scout, a Girl Scout mom and a Girl Scout leader gives my life so much extra meaning. I truly believe that living with the principles represented by the three leaves in the trefoil makes the world a better place.
