Hi friends! Katie Berry here! Anyone else ready for the warmer weather?! Even though we have had a mild winter here in North Carolina, we are over winter already! We are ready for spring and summer and the warm weather that comes with it. Today I’m sharing this fun Sea Life Tic-Tac-Toe Mat. Not only is it fun and easy to make, the kids can use it for a before meal activity, as a placemat, or it can be used for a fun snack time activity!
- 12” x 18” craft cut of Kunin Premiumfelt™ (4) Lagoon (used for the actual mat), (1) Violet Sky, (1) Smoke, (1) Olive, (1) Candy Pink
- 9” x 12” craft cut of Kunin Classicfelt™ in White
- Beacon Adhesives Felt Glue
- Dimensional Fabric Paint (I used Tulip Slick Dimensional Fabric Paint)
- Sewing Machine (only if you plan to use as placemats and might need to wash them)
- Ellison/Sizzix Die Cut Machine and Sea Life Dies
Using the Die Cutting Machine and the Sea Life Dies, cut out all of the pieces. For the turtle, I cut out extra pieces so that I could cut off the body parts and have a different color shell. For the shark, I cut out an extra set of teeth in white.
Once you have all of your pieces cut out, it’s time to figure out where to put them. Before you glue the pieces down, place them on the 12” x 18” craft cuts. Once you have figured out where to put each piece, glue them down using the Beacon Adhesives Felt Glue.
Step 3: (Optional)
With two boys at home, I figure that I’m going to be washing these (especially if they use them as place mats too). So after I glued my pieces down, I sewed my pieces to the 12” x 18” craft cut.
I wanted to add detail to my sea life, so I used Dimensional Fabric Paint. You can decorate yours any way that you’d like.
Once I added details with fabric paint to my sea life, it was time to make the tic-tac-toe board. I laid out the starfish and sand dollars. Then I drew the board using green dimensional fabric paint.
I made four different mats. We can play as a family or with our friends! My kids always love to play tic-tac-toe when we go out to dinner, so now we can play it at home!
Hope you enjoyed this felt Sea Life Tic-Tac-Toe Mat that I made.
I am obsessed with the Kunin Premiumfelt™. I love the thickness and that it works well with die cutting machines. You can now find an expanded color line of Kunin Eco-fi Classicfelt; Eco-fiPlus™ Premiumfelt and ShaggiChic non-wovens fabrics in cut by the yard at your local Walmart; please inquire as to what is available in your area.
