Reindeer are everywhere this holiday season from mounted head replicas to standing reindeer of every size or found on pillows, wall hangings and table décor. I have always loved reindeer to decorate with and have several already in my collection.

While away over the Thanksgiving weekend we visited the beautiful LL Bean flagship store in Freeport Maine. It is an experience, the staff are very friendly, the décor striking and comfortable with a Holiday lightshow every night outside from 5 to 7 pm. While shopping their Home collection I fell in love with these Alpine reindeer, balsa wood construction and the legs insert separately allowing for flat storage later.

When starting my holiday decorating I realized I wanted a large wall piece for the mantel. The poppy canvas I have is just fine for the rest of the year but not for the holidays. Having lots of felt on hand and inspired by the Alpine reindeer I decided to create my own wall art.

You will need:

• 9” x 12” craft cuts Kunin Eco-Fi™ Classicfelt™, 1 Red
• 1 – 1 ½ yd cut by the yard  Kunin Eco-FiPlus™ Premiumfelt™ , White
• ½ yd cut by the yard  Kunin Eco-FiPlus™ Premiumfelt™ , Black
• Beacon Fabri-tac Adhesive
• Scissors, ruler, chalk.

1. Measure canvas, cut a piece of felt 6” larger length and width wise. Place canvas right side down in center of felt. Cut out excess piece of felt in corners. Fold over top end to meet side fold over making a corner, glue. Repeat for all four corners.

2. Use Alpine reindeer to draw out a pattern onto the black felt. For the legs just draw one side of the leg pattern. Cut out two reindeer and four legs.

3. For the scarf use the paper scarf that came with the deer as a template. Draw pattern with chalk and cut out two.

4. Wrap scarf around deer neck and glue. Repeat for second deer.

5. Glue reindeer to canvas. Add some snowflake or other embellishments if desired.

Your canvas art is ready to hang or grace the mantel! After the holidays just slip the felt corners off and store for next year. The Premiumfelt covers most canvas without the design underneath showing through. If it is still showing from underneath place a piece of Bristol board on the front and then cover with the felt.
