Market Tote

By Laura Bray

My daughter and I love to go to the Farmer’s Market in the summer. To keep her busy, I usually give her a few dollars to spend on whatever she wants. She typically buys herself some flowers, bakery, or berries. I created this sweet little tote for her to carry her purchases home.

Supplies:

  • 1 yard of Eco-fi Classicfelt
  • 1 yard of stiff, iron-on  interfacing (optional)
  • Mini Market Tote Pattern
  • Green felt scraps for stems and leaves
  • 3 Felt Flowers (get the tutorial to make them here.)
  • Craft Glue
  • Embroidery floss and thread

Instructions:

  1. Use the Mini Market Market Tote pattern to cut pieces of the tote from felt. If you want a stiff tote, also cut pattern pieces from interfacing.
  2. If using interfacing, iron it onto the felt pieces.
  3. Using embroidery floss, whip stitch together one side of the tote. The sides with interfacing (if being used) should be facing each other.
  4. Whip stitch the bottom pattern pieces to the sides, then stitch up the other side of the tote.
  5. Add a decorate whip or blanket stitch to the top edges and handle of the tote, but don’t sew them together! The top and handles need to be left open to form the tote bag.
  6. Glue stems, leaves and flowers onto the front of the tote using a strong craft glue.
