Three Ways to Use Felt Around the House

Felt is a great material for crafting but felt can be used for so much more. Kunin’s Eco-Fi Premium Plus Felt has mold resistant properties that make it great for landscaping projects and it’s wicking properties make it perfect for coasters and lining plant pots. Here are three ways to use Kunin felt around the house:

Coasters:

We keep stacks of cork coasters around but they are boring and rather thin. I glued the coasters to a sheet of Kunin felt and cut them out, following the edge of the coaster closely with the scissors as I cut. The coasters are now doubled sided and the felt gives them a luxurious feel, even though I got the cork at the dollar store! The felt helps wick away moisture from cups and the cork helps keep the moisture away from the table top. To create a set of 6 coasters costs under $2 with a pack of cork coasters from the dollar store and one sheet of Kunin Eco-Fi Premium Plus Felt.

Landscaping:

Kunin’s by-the-yard felt is perfect for landscaping. I used about 15 yards as an underlayment for a gravel patio are we installed in our backyard. The thick felt stops weeds from growing from the dirt underneath yet the permeable fabric allows water to drain through to the dirt below. Read more here: How to Make a Gravel Patio.

Scratch Preventer:

Cut Kunin felt to the shape of heavy and rough objects used in home décor. This decorative plant pot I put an orchid in had a very rough bottom that had started scratching the glass top of the table it set on.  I’ve seen “pot pads” at the store but they are never the right size and they are usually brown. With Kunin felt, you can make a pot pad any size or shape and you can choose felt that matches the item you’re creating the pad for. I traced the pot onto a 12×18 piece of Kunin Eco-Fi Premium Plus Felt and cut the traced circle out of the felt with scissors on the inside of the trace line. You can glue the felt to the bottom of the item or just set the item on the felt to help protect the surface the item is on.  I left this felt circle detached from the pot so that I can wash it if needed. Kunin felt washes up beautifully in the washing machine, with no shrinkage.
