Cameo Tote size: 17” x 20” (including handles)

My daughter gave me a Coach tote for Christmas. I liked the style and wanted to design something similar to go with my black coat. The Damask pattern has always been one of my favorite patterns so the Fancifelt with the striking black and white was the perfect choice.

You will need:

Ÿ18” x 36” single piece packs Kunin Fancifelt™, 2 Legacy White

9” x 12” craft cuts Kunin Classicfelt™, 1 White, 1 Black

Ÿ1” metal clasp

Ÿ1 dangle chain charm

Ÿ4 decorative buttons

Ÿ½ yard of 3mm white pearl strand

Ÿ2 ½ yards of 1” white grosgrain ribbon

ŸBlack thread

Tools

ŸSewing machine

ŸNeedle

Ÿ3” oval template

Ÿ2” clip art silhouette

Ÿ2” x 17” piece of foam core

ŸFabri-tac™ adhesive by Beacon

Basic supplies

scissors, ruler, pencil, paper, pins

Abbreviations RST Right Sides Together, WST Wrong Sides Together

How to:

From legacy felt cut two tote pieces 16” by 18”, cut two handle pieces 3” by 26”, bottom piece 5” by 18”. Cut a 3” oval from white felt. Place white oval on black felt and cut 1/8” larger oval. Cut silhouette from black felt.

RST sew ½” seam on both sides and bottom of the tote pieces. Trim seam.

Finger press the two bottom corners flat with the seam line centered. Sew diagonally across the corner 1” from point. Trim corner points off.

Fold top of tote over 3”. Place grosgrain ribbon under raw edge extending ¼”. Top stitch ¼” from edge.

WST fold straps in half. Insert grosgrain ribbon extending ¼”. Top stitch handles.

Pin handles centered 6” apart on front and back of tote. Top stitch handles in place.

WST fold bottom piece and sew a 1/4” seam along bottom. Trim seam. Insert foam core into tote. Remove and trim corners of foam core if needed. Finish by gluing ends closed. Insert into tote.

Glue white oval to black oval. Glue pearl strand around oval.

Stitch cameo to handle. Stitch dangle chain charm. Add buttons by sewing or gluing.
